Reports to: Design Trainer & Senior Design Team 

Job Scope: The designer is responsible for fire sprinkler system design work on multiple projects according to all pertinent specifications, drawings, and codes. Completes permit drawings and hydraulic calculations for all types of buildings under construction, including residential, commercial, and industrial. Applies knowledge of system operations and follows planned blueprint instructions.

Essential Job Functions: 

1. Print or obtain the appropriate and up-to-date plans.
2. Maintain constructive communication with Driven staff and clients.
3. Obtain all pertinent water flow data and properly size system.
4. Determine requirements for products, material, clarifications, or substitutions.
5. Design complete system and obtain approval from manager prior to submitting to the client or AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction.)
6. Maintain proper documents and updates and forward to appropriate personnel.
7. Maintain accurate and appropriate documentation on each project.

Required Skills: 

1. Good time management and organizational skills. Personal accountability is a must.
2. Strong communication skills.
3. The ability to make decisions independently.
4. Prior construction or AutoCAD experience or knowledge is preferred but not required.
5. Completion of AFSA and NICET Certification in design is encouraged and may be completed during employment.
6. Understanding of codes or willingness to learn.
7. Proficient with computers and programs, especially CAD and specialized add on programs.
8. High aptitude for design and a can-do attitude.

Educational and Experience Requirements: 

• • Any level of education is acceptable. A strong desire to learn, grow, work hard, and improve oneself are the most important qualities.
  • Candidates with the above qualities with any level of experience are encouraged to apply, although candidates who can show that they possess these qualities through past achievements will receive preferential consideration.
  • Past achievements that show an eagerness to grow, learn, and contribute include but are not limited to a degree in a related field or a high school diploma with related experience including drafting or construction experience, especially in MEP (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing) or fire sprinkler installation.

Working Conditions:
This position entails spending most of the time in the office with the occasional visit to a construction site. Some travel may be required to visit construction sites. Most days will entail working in the office and going home at night. The occasional visit to a construction site may expose the individual to adverse weather conditions and normal construction hazards. Personal safety equipment will be provided for any necessary site visits.

Job Description:

The fire protection engineer is engaged in the layout, detailing and calculations of water-based systems that comply with code and statutory requirements. Areas covered include plan and submittal preparation, applications of various types of water-based systems, equipment selection and application, and technical management of layout projects. Technical areas covered include types of water-based systems and their components; water supply requirements; hydraulics; building features, hazards, and occupancy considerations; system installation, inspection, and maintenance requirements; applicable codes and standards; and contract administration.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

3. NICET, AFSA and other industry certifications encouraged and may be completed during employment.
4. Certified Fire Protection Specialist, preferred
5. 5 years field engineering/consulting experience in fire protection and/or architecture, preferred
6. Working knowledge of Fire, Life Safety and Building Codes, NFPA Standards, and UL/FM standards
7. Ability to apply broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific area of practice.
8. Ability to manage small project of limited complexity
9. Ability to evaluate, select and apply standard techniques and procedures and criteria to perform a task.
10. Demonstrated project management experience
11. Working competency with MS Office & MS Project software
12. Ability to perform basic calculations using egress, fire smoke and water modeling software.
13. Demonstrated proficiency in verbal, written, presentation skills

This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask across various responsibilities.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Visitor and Communication Management

1. Welcome and direct any visitors
2. Answer telephone calls
3. Receive and process mail and packages

Accounts Payable (A/P)

1. Enter credit card A/P entries
2. Enter invoice A/P entries
3. Track vendor information
4. Prepare and submit Sales & Use Tax Return

Accounts Receivable (A/R)

CAD Technician Support

1. Provide for role as a CAD technician as needed
   • Communicate with team leader and prioritize workload of upcoming project priorities for clean-up
   • Identify if all necessary CAD files have been acquired and communicate with team lead if anything is outstanding or missing
   • Proficiently use company software [BricsCAD] to generate background files used for fire sprinkler design plans according to company standards and guidelines
   • Make sure project files (i.e. dwgs, pdfs, RVT models) are properly and neatly organized within the folder system of the server

Benefits:

• Competitive salary starting at $41,000- 45,000 based on education and experience with potential for advancement. Position is flexible for 32-40 hours/week, but no more than 40 hours weekly.
