Description
The fire protection engineer is engaged in the layout, detailing and calculations of water-based systems that comply with code and statutory requirements. Areas covered include plan and submittal preparation, applications of various types of water-based systems, equipment selection and application, and technical management of layout projects. Technical areas covered include types of water-based systems and their components; water supply requirements; hydraulics; building features, hazards, and occupancy considerations; system installation, inspection, and maintenance requirements; applicable codes and standards; and contract administration.

- Print or obtain the appropriate and up-to-date plans.
- Maintain constructive communication with Driven staff and clients.
- Obtain all pertinent water flow data and properly size system.
- Determine requirements for products, material, clarifications, or substitutions.
- Utilize design software to apply engineering concepts and standards to each unique project.
Qualifications
- Good time management and organizational skills. Personal accountability is a must.
- Strong communication skills.
- The ability to make decisions independently and hold self accountable.
- Prior construction or AutoCAD experience or knowledge is preferred but not required.
- High aptitude for design and a can-do attitude.
- A strong desire to learn, grow, work hard, and improve oneself are the most important qualities.
Working Conditions
This position entails spending most of the time in the office with the occasional visit to a construction site. Some travel may be required to visit construction sites. Most days will entail working in the office and going home at night. The occasional visit to a construction site may expose the individual to adverse weather conditions and normal construction hazards. Personal safety equipment will be provided for any necessary site visits.
