Driven Fire was contracted by an engineering and architectural firm to create fire protection engineering documents for three new buildings on the Empirical Foods campus: Main Building, Warehouse, and Wastewater Treatment Facility. All three buildings are supplied by a suction tank and pump located at the Main Building. Engineering documents for the Main Building consisted of a plan showing which areas required sprinkler protection, their design requirements, and a manual wet and manual dry standpipe layout. The Warehouse utilized ceiling level only ESFR sprinkler protection for all areas of the building including palletized, solid-piled, and rack storage. The Wastewater Treatment Facility system utilized standard spray sprinklers to protect hazardous chemical storage and anhydrous ammonia storage. The International Fire Code and FM Data Sheet 7-14: Protection for Chemical Plants due to the Storage of Liquefied Flammable Gas were referenced to determine the proper design criteria for the automatic sprinkler system. By preparing these fire protection engineering documents for each of the three buildings, the owner could be confident that the installing contractors were providing code compliant systems based on what was required by the International Fire Code and the best practices of similar occupancies.
